Palliative Care Conference

A Palliative Care Conference, presented by Providence Sacred Heart Medical Center & Children’s Hospital. Keynote Speaker is Stefan Friedrichdorf, MD, Children’s Hospitals & Clinics of Minnesota, Diplomate of the American Board of Hospice and Palliative Medicine & Medical Director of the Pain and Palliative Care Program, who will present “From Morphine & Massage to Myths & Misconceptions: Managing Acute Pain in Children.”

Dr. Friedrichdorf will also facilitate workshops, including “Common, Complex & Complicated? Chronic & Procedural Pediatric Pain Management,” and “Welcome to Bubble-Land: Integrative, Non-pharmacologial Pain Management Strategies.” Other presenters include Jim Shaw, MD, Medical Director of Providence Center for Faith & Healing; Krista Robak, CCLS; and Karen Gordon, MSW (click here to view the entire schedule).

Physicians are welcome to attend a special dinner presentation Thursday, November 12, where Dr. Friedrichdorf will present “Lessons Learned from Jazz: Managing Chronic, Complex and Acute Pain in Children.”

Goals & Objectives

Recognize the complexities of pain management in pediatric medical care.
Identify multiple methods for assessing and treating acute, chronic and procedural pain in children.
Enhance communication and understanding between families and health care professionals.

Parkinsons' Support Group

Over 1 million Americans suffer from Parkenson's - a disease caused by the failure of the brain to produce adequate amounts of dopamine, a chemical necessary for smooth, coordinated movement and muscle relaxation. It afflicts people regardless of gender, race, background, behavior, lifestyle or geographic area.

The Parkinson's Telehealth program broadcasts live, interactive educational talks to connected rural communities in the Northwest. Guest speakers provide valuable information on topics that will help participants to improve their knowledge of Parkinson's disease, and in turn their quality of life.

Presented by the Spokane Parkinson’s Resource Center, Northwest Parkinson's Foundation and Northwest Telehealth, this program is offered on the 3rd Monday of each month, 2 - 4 p.m. The General Public and Parkinsons' care providers are welcome to participate.

The conference is available at Sacred Heart's Providence Neuroscience Center, Suite 1000 in the Sacred Heart Doctor's Building, via Northwest TeleHealth.
